Fine slapped on PIOs under RTI Act

PATNA: August 31, 2010: State Information Commissioner (SIO) Shakeel Ahmad on Monday slapped fine on public information officer (PIO)- cum-panchayat secretary, Dhanauji panchayat in East Champaran district, for not providing information to an applicant on time.
As per a official press release issued here, the fine was clamped on the PIO as he failed to provide information to one Subodh Kumar Singh on time and even failed to respond to the commission's notice. The maximum fine amount has been fixed at Rs 25,000 and the BDO concerned has been asked to deduct the fine amount from the salary of the PIO.
Ahmad also imposed fine on PIO-cum-executive engineer, power supply division, Gopalganj. The PIO failed to provide information to an applicant Ali Imam on time. The maximum fine amount has been fixed at Rs 25,000.
The Gopalganj DM has been directed to deduct the fine amount from the PIO's salary.
